The Last and Forgotten Post

Opinion on topic- Confronting ISIS

Is there a real way to confront ISIS. We attack- we are involving ourselves into another conflict and casualties. We don't take action-we critize ourselves for watching horrific acts being done, many wonder how far will ISIS go so that America takes action. So where do find this oh-so-perfect plan. We don't. This is my action plan- Drones are out of the picture. Since the killing of the hostages in a CIA drone mission, the safety of it is gone. Yes, I agree that we  should keep tabs on them and keep coming up withe different strategies that benefit both views. In the end will we as a country be able to end this war and not create a snowball affect war?

Unit 5

Unit 5
May 16 2015
Fracking

In Pennsylvania there are 66 operators, 7,788 active wells, 4,006 violations and $6.1 millions of total fines. Pennsylvania had announced that there were over 200 cases of water contamination from oil and gas drilling. They published the cases to inform the citizens of any problems of fracking because Pennsylvania was acting very poorly on reporting incidents of fracking. The former health secretary spoke out about the state failing to keep up with health impact studies. The state was going to fund money for complaints of Fracking but was pulled out. Many citizens wonder when they are going to be able to light up their faucet. Has fracking gone to far.

Spoken out

Fracking is blooming. with fracking becoming popular many jobs are being created and the economy is going a steady flow. Because of the money being made the tax in Pennsylvania have decreased. New York has even considered lifting the ban on fracking. Fracking has been used for the past 60, if it safe then then it is safe now. Many say that we are exempted from regulations but drillers have to follow 8 federal and 11 state acts and laws to continue the work of safe fracking

Fracking may have been around for 60 years but it still affects the environmental and energy polices. Gas companies have to follow strict rules to keep the environment safe but parts of the Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act, they are exempted and its called The Halliburton Loophole.

Unit 4

Unit 4-Supreme Court
April 19 2015

The news have been hyped up about police shooting involving deadly force. Michael Slager, the police officer, Shot Walter Scott, who was unarmed, has sparked conservatives whether police are using to much force. Many say that is has to do about race, but has the police always been bad. There was a case where police encounter mentally ill person, Teresa Sheehan,  who was pepper sprayed and was shot about six times. She then proceeded to file a law suit claiming protection from American disabilities Act.

Police have been train to use force on regular armed people. Its their job to keep the community at peace. But police are yet in need of training for different situation. They are not exactly trained to deal with Sheehan's situation even thought it is common to happen. In the case there are two stories, where one she does not pose a threat then there is one where she is a threat. It all matters in a point of view.
Illness 2

These cases involving the Supreme Court. They will be heard by the Supreme Court. And Potentially use the cases of Tennessee v. Garner and Graham v. Connor. Tennessee v. Garner is about a man was shot and killed by a police officer, believe him to be a burglar. The Supreme court said that is was unconstitutional because deadly force should be use to prevent an escape. The Case of Graham v. Connor is about a police officer who used sadistic motivation on a suspicious man.

Filibuster

Unit 4-Congress
April 5 2015

Filibuster was adapted by the senate to let the minority party to voice out their opinion. But now the right to debate is being taken away. Many say that the republicans take advantage of filibuster to stop a vote. Both Parties are terrified on eliminating filibuster on the fear of losing programs. It can be a problem because minority of the party will change, so it would be a gamble when a party would be superior than  the other. Interest groups benefit on filibuster because it provides them to voice out their opinion.
Restore
Should the Filibuster be Overhauled?
No
During Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid six years as leader there has been 386 Republican-led filibusters. He has said "'They have made it an almost impossible task to get things done.'" Many believe that filibuster is a tactic for a person to stall on a issue. In the Huffington Post the author states  "Filibuster are used for destruction of the other party's agenda instead of as legislative tools." Reid has come up with the idea of Nuclear Option to prevent filibusters but does not entirely believe on eliminating filibuster.

Huffingtonpost

There is a unit that is dedicated to filibuster and these article related by debating on filibuster in the senate because it had been there for a long time. Filibuster is known widely as the famous movie Mr. Smith Goes to Washington has a iconic view on filibuster. In the movie he is know for being a hero who used filibuster but now filibuster seems like a lame excuse to stall on a issue that the majority party wants.

Should the 22nd Amendment Be Repealed?

Unit 4-The Presidency
March 3 2015

In 1951 the 22nd amendment was ratified by the states. The 22nd amendment limits  the terms a president is allowed to run (2 terms). Many say that this intrudes the right for a chance to redeem themselves (the president) from the mistakes that they have done in office. The 22nd amendment was passed after FDR had served four terms. A representative from the house wants the amendment repealed, Jose Serrano, proposed to have the amendment to be appealed during Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barrack Obama administration.

Repeal the 22 Amendment

Many believe that the 22nd amendment is to help the president from recieving to much power. People are greatful for the 22nd amendment because a person would not be able to tell whether a president would be doing their job correctly. It prevents presidents from being scandalous like Nixon, Harding, and Clinton.

For it

These articles are related to Unit four- the Presidnecy because it explains the views of people if the 22nd amendment was repealed. It is in the constitution that a president is only allowed to run for office twice. Though many believe that the 22nd amendment should be repealed it barely made it to the floor. The unit goes into depth on how much power the president can recieve. If the the 22nd amendment was repealed it could be chaotic.

Are earlier primaries good?

Unit 3
March 1 2015

Many wonder if holding the primary or caucus makes a difference. It does. Arizona has pushed for an earlier primary election and has been approved from the house. It is now being held three weeks earlier than it was. The bill was originally calling it to extend to May because it would be a long election campaign. One republican candidate, John Kasich,  has traveled to South Carolina to campaign.  South Carolina is one of the few states that hold early primary. It also lets the voters to get to know the candidates longer. Since it is much longer the voters get and extend time to get to know the candidates. Voter turnout in Kansas had one of its local primary elections to be historically low. As the voters were not going because of weather or did not know much information of the candidates. Kansa does not have early primaries.

Other say its an unfair advantage point to the not so  noticeable  candidate. The wealthier candidates can use earlier primary as earlier campaigning. While  the  other candidate may not have as much money to keep campaigning as long. Earlier primary defeats the purpose as the primaries are to be hold on  Jan. 31. But those who move up their  dates loose delegates. It is a consequence for the states who have broken the rules.

Little guys

This topic is related to the unit because it has to do with the dates of when the primary election dates change. It also affects the candidates who do not get notice as much as the other candidates do. It talks about the primaries can also affect the voters views on other. It talks about how Kansas is has a low turnout because of weather or because how little they know about candidates.

Photo ID and Voting

Unit 2
February 16 2015

Many people wonder if photo id should  be required to able to vote. Photo Ids would be able to prevent voting fraud. There has been frauds that involved forging signatures so their political party could win. Many who support Photo Id want to make sure that those who are voting  are citizen. They believe many are either using fake, decease, or using the same name twice. Many assume that Demarcates are the ones who are part of the fraud. If a person does not have an id they would be able to go to the DMV and fill out an application to receive an id. Many say that photo id would suppress minority and the lower class.  In Wisconsin, they were trying to pass a law requiring photo ID but was block by the supreme court. Nevada is trying to pass the law, and it would be likely that it will be pass by Gov. Brian Sandoval (R).

Photo Id

Others say that obtaining a photo id would be costly and cause lower turnout for minorities. It also affects young adults because at least 23 million do not own any identification. It would also affect those with disability and older voters. It has been predicted the cost to obtain and id would be between $200-$900 million. Senator Bernard Sanders said : “These state laws aren't really intended to discourage fraud, they’re intended to discourage voting." (quote from article)Study has shown that there is a less turnouts when the photo id law was passed.

Cost of Photo ID

Turnout

This topic was relevant towards the Unit because it  was about how voting is becoming stricter causing many to believe that polling is becoming a discrimination, It referrers how the photo ids affect races, and some say it goes against the 15th amendment. Though it does affect the 19 amendment because it does not affect gender. In my opinion there should not be a photo id law. I feel like its like poll tax because it cost Americans to get an id.
