Filibuster was adapted by the senate to let the minority party to voice out their opinion. But now the right to debate is being taken away. Many say that the republicans take advantage of filibuster to stop a vote. Both Parties are terrified on eliminating filibuster on the fear of losing programs. It can be a problem because minority of the party will change, so it would be a gamble when a party would be superior than the other. Interest groups benefit on filibuster because it provides them to voice out their opinion.

During Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid six years as leader there has been 386 Republican-led filibusters. He has said "'They have made it an almost impossible task to get things done.'" Many believe that filibuster is a tactic for a person to stall on a issue. In the Huffington Post the author states "Filibuster are used for destruction of the other party's agenda instead of as legislative tools." Reid has come up with the idea of Nuclear Option to prevent filibusters but does not entirely believe on eliminating filibuster.

Filibuster is known widely as the famous movie Mr. Smith Goes to Washington has a iconic view on filibuster. In the movie he is know for being a hero who used filibuster but now filibuster seems like a lame excuse to stall on a issue that the majority party wants.
